I know the RMS is 800w, But how much could one of these take before burning out?
2Kw? 3Kw?

Rog told me once that he has put 2Kw into a PD186 all night long before and it still kept on going.
and these are rated 700W RMS

whats the most anyone has put into a 1850 before knacking it?

cheers

hahaha. yeah right.  2Kw peak maybe, music power. 2kw average? no chance.

Let see ... 2kw into 8ohms sinewave .. .needs 180V rails (357V pk to pk) .. not many deliver that voltage

music on 1/3 duty cycle .. you could be hitting 6K on peaks to deliver 2K average music power ...   620V pk-pk

none deliver that voltage .. Talking out of  his ass.

MC2 e90 however does doesnt it?

Output Power (Watts RMS) per channel :
8 ohms @ 1kHz: 2000
4 ohms @ 1kHz: 4500
2 ohms @ 1kHz:
8000
Mono Bridged
8 ohms @ 1kHz: 9000
4 ohms @ 1kHz: 16000

i put 2600w into a pair of PD186 with dubstep and they still run quite cool.#so i figured an 1850 should take alot more than that

Crest factor is the key. If the driver ain't getting hot then it ain't getting much power.
A true 2000w cont. rms into an 1850 would probably melt the voice coil or at least destroy the voice-coil/former bond in very quick time.

dont know if it helps but when i designed and built the box, i put the ports close to the magnets to hopefully cool the magnets with the rush of air in and out of the ports.

it seems to work. either that or like you said the amp aint giving out what it says it does.

Think it might depend on the cab, type of music, and amount of eq. LOL

In theory yes, thats why I said *not many* deliver that. The E90 supposedly has 180V rails,  so should just manage 2K into 8R sinewave ...  so you could achieve the claimed "2K all night" by running sinwave out of an E90 .. at which point the PD186 would melt. I'd say less than 2 minutes.

to get 2K average music you would need a bigger amp than actually exists.

A more believable claim would be "2K music, 700W rms" .. a 3:1 crest factto which is entirely believable and withing the stated rating of the speaker.

Im with Mr Wilkes on this one,  at 2K rms,  PD186 would melt.

2600W 'music power' maybe, thats well within its capability.

What amp did you run a pair of PD186's off to get 2600W rms into them then?

What it comes down to is duty cycle/crest factor and rail voltage.  On heavy sub duty, you could see 3:1 crest factor ... so in theory strapped across an amp with around 180V rails you'd hit about 700W RMS, 2K peak. In theory, it should; take that ...  In practice, I think the 186 strapped across an amp with that class of power level would get ripped apart.
