hiya guys,
recently i have found that my internet speed is slowed down to a snails pace, i mean downloading at 32kps
i called up my isp according to them i should be reciving a 3mb connection as my line is not capable to doing anymore, and from my own reaserch i have found that that actual speed that im reciving is less than 1mb or even half that, so then i thought i must be getting throttled so i did this test by google on http://measurementlab.net/.  the test results are below, but within the results it says that the connection is limited 99.76% of the time, i presume that the connection is being throttled .. .the question hear is how do i get my isp to stop this!!, the connection is rubbish!!!!!!

and what time of day do you mainly use your internet?

my isp is sky broadband
i use the internet mainly in the evening , but do use it quite a bit now and again all day

So what does "Information: Other network traffic is congesting the link" mean?  Is that someone using my wireless?

One rashly assumes you have your Wifi locked down, MAC address locking is best as it has no packet over-head and is pretty harf to hack.
Failing that WEP is better than nothing and if you disable SSID broadcast is fairly hard to hack.
 
I don't know what router you use but if you get into the menu system look in "attached devices" in local network to see what your DCHP server has been chatting to lately, if there are any machine you don't reconise that could be your prob...

Have you tested  your speed during random times of the day?

Are you getting this speed result using either wireless or cable connection to your ISP?

What speed did the ISP measure coming to your house.

Is this service a copper (cable) ISP or DSL or other?

have you tried other speed test sites and got same results?

Switch to o2.

Was paying Tiscali for years, and they always said max line speed was 2mb, switched to o2, and I now average 7mb.

Thing is it will ask you for your adsl username. Sky routers hide this, you'll need to do some resarch.
Try user @sky.com or something, or ask Sky what to put in.
 
Your results I will wager will show a very low profile, quote this to tech support.
If they are like Talktalk they won't even know what it is.
 
People want BB too cheap period.

English tech, phone answered in 10 seconds, honest speeds that DO NOT suffer contention isues in the evening.
Why? Because they don't lie about unlimited, it's not possible. Pay them for what you use and be happy forever.
 
800kbps plus, as we speak from Oxford Uni download, in the Devon countryside with the phone lines flapping in the wind.
My BT neighbor one side cannot ever get more that 500 and the Tiscali one the other less than 100.
Same file,same road, very different ISP.

You have high latency and packet loss, are you certain you aren't downloading anything? Is somebody in the house using torrents per chance?

Seen this reported on Talk Talk new connections latley, no one else in building, same scenario.
Both premises had a profile of 135!
I have no idea why it showed like this, your assumption Toasty is what I would have thought.
The combining factor was that both exchanges were newley 21cn.
Talk the Talk have been very active on the two occasions I lost it wth them, British call centre staff checking back, lots. They know there is an issue.
 
Sorry go go off on one about the ISP's earlier, just that everybody wants everything for 50p a day!
