A friend of mine is looking for some sort of small line array system he could build himself, i've showed him some Q1 and he loves the size....
So are there any plans around for a box like Q1 ? Thanks :)

If you can find a waveguide which produces a similar wavefront then you can build a similar box. However I think you'll find there aren't any on the market.

Only the other week, i took a Q1 apart (to fix it) and while i was inside it, i took a good look about to see if it was copyable. The woodwork seems easy enough if you have the expertise and tools etc, but as Chris said, the waveguide is the importnat bit.
Unless you have a factory, and are able to produce a clone mould, then forget it.
Also, getting hold of the correct drivers will be the next task. Then a D12 to drive it with blah blah blah.
Anyway. isn't this a DIY forum? Tell him to get his pencil out, and design his own!

Well i am not so convinced that the DB dsp settings can not be made. That box is 2 way and with a Smaart or some similar program you can get it flat fairly easy. So D12 amps are not that essential.
Did you make any picture of the inside to see what drivers are inside? |

And Q1 is not a true line array box anyway.

That's not the same waveguide though is it. The D&B one uses quite a clever little trick by bending the first section in order to equalise the path length and produce a flat wavefront. Still not perfect but allows it to function as a line array to some extent. A conventional straight diffraction slot horn will not allow the cabinets to array as well.
