A large chamber gives deeper bass but less cone control. A small chamber gives higher power handling/SPL but less low frequency extension.
I don't know at what measurement it stops being small and becomes large though. Someone with more knowledge will enlighten us soon no doubt! When they do, could they also please explain what t/s parameters to look at in deciding whether a small or large chamber is needed? ta!

As in all different types of boxes, perhaps only one speaker will be near perfect. whether small medium or large chamber, the compliance of the speaker will have a baring on cone control.

Small chamber : 185mm - 205mm
Medium chamber : 205mm - 254 mm Large chamber : > 254mm Small chamber Most efficient, huge amount of pressure and throw, needs plenty eq to go really deep, unless 4+ cabs, Should have very good driver control, great for outside or large venues Medium chamber Good throw + SPL with efficient drivers, very little EQ to go deep, 2x cabs can go real low, OK driver control with good drivers, great for small/medium/large indoor venues Large Chamber Least efficient, Will go very deep with little or no eq, will be loud and deep close up, not as much throw, as above 2x, reduced driver control at high power, best for smaller venues All depends on driver used, if cab designed properly, length of rear baffle, expansion rate of cab. |

Goal is to make chamber for geting 36Hz, don't need to go lower.
