had a good search around the forum and there isn't really too much here about the MT102, but I'm curious as it just might be a good option for me.

not sure where the plans are hiding, was wondering if they're over on speakerplans.nl ??

Anyone out there using them who can tell me what the low end is like on them, where you think they can really play to.
I'm hunting for something that will play down to a HD15 but play up to about 2.5k if possible..problem is I want plenty of punch and clarity in the low mid, to make sure i'm not missing the fundamentals on the snares etc.

I know its a tall order, but it's either that or 5 way..and thats going to cost so...

MT102 is a fairly basic design.  Plays from about 200Hz up to 1-1.5kHz I expect.  Certainly won't reach 2.5kHz.  We need the new Porn Horn to be ready!

12 inch straight flared horns?  I know those can play from about 80hz to 5khz. And give nice low mids and great projection of the sound.

Theres also a 15 inch straight flared horn on there too.

Theres the conversion sheet telling you what new Eminence drivers to use as the old ones are obsolete on the plans.

ceharden, thanks for the specs-had a search but couldn't find x-over points. Yep, I think there are a few of us who want something to fill that gap.

Toxic-I really don't think that 12's, let alone 15's are ever going to play smooth up to 5kHz.. It's been fairly well proven by now I think.

Thats the big problem really- how to get a driver small enough to have reasonable response up to about 2.5KHz that will cover down to a HD15 or similar kick bin. I could use a straight horn which reaches up higher, but that wouldn't really suit the way we play.
I just don't like the vocals screaming out of the compression drivers..

If finances weren't standing in the way I think i'd go 5 way.. subs to 90, HD215's to 160, 12" straight horn>350, (Xtro style 8" mid horn >2.5K, then CD's/Bullets. Not the standard setup i know, but with the right power balance this would suit the way we play the sound and give clarity and power in the right areas for the styles we play.

That 12 inch design says it can play up to 5khz. So if you use a driver with a twin cone[whizzer cone in centre] like the Eminence Beta 12LT which goes up to 8khz. So up to 3khz should be smooth.

James ind st, had made a couple of those 12 inch flared horns with Eminence Beta 12LT's in them and said they were smooth around 3khz. I can't remember exactly what frequency they start sounding harsh at unless I find his exact post.

Unless you went 4 way. 18 inch scoops to 120hz, 12 inch flared horns to 800hz, then 2 of 8 inch drivers in a sealed angled enclosure to 5-6khz. Then bullets from there.

Problem is, as stated, the crossover points I specified are the ones I want as they suit the way the sound gets played.
Don't want scoops up to 120 as it takes too much bass out when killed.
High bass needs to play the upper bass line alone, and be killable without taking most of the mid with it.

The 12 inch flared horn frequency response by looking at the graph on the plan falls off rapidly below 60hz.So crossing it over at 90hz should be fine.

Use the Delta Pro 12 in the 12 inch flared horn as the graph looks more smoother up to 3.5khz than the Beta 12LT.

That 12" flare will not go anywhere near that low whether the response plot says it or not.  It says on the design 180Hz upwards which is about right.  On that short a horn, the driver will become unloaded below about 160Hz and excursion will go through the roof.

I guess your right. I was confused as the graph for that horn doesn't start rolling off before 100hz on the graph shown below on it.
So I presumed 80hz/90hz would be ok.

Thats a hard one to work out with your requirements.

But so far I'd say 18 inch scoops to 90hz, double 15 inch reflex to 160hz. Both Iration Steppas and King Shiloh and a few others do it like that with double 15's above scoops. Not sure what frequency they cross over at though.
HD15's might sound too clean with reggae.

Above that it will be a little tricky without using a compression driver for vocal ranges or not going 5 way active.

So all I can suggest is that 12 inch flared horn from 160hz to 2.5khz. 2 of 8 inch drivers from there on a angled baffle or xtro type horn. And then passively crossed over bullet tweeters at about 5khz.

http://www.janaudio.com/products/  Or one of those nice horns for the 8 inch mids. dansound on squatjuice has a few of those for sale.
