Cheers

Why would you want to do that? The HID are considered the 'premium' lamp out of the 2.
You may also find problems with the colours changing due to the different colour temps of the lamps Edited by norty303 - 20 September 2011 at 7:28pm |

+1 to Norty
Not to mention the ELC 250w isn't the most reliable lamp in the world! In theory conversion is VERY easy, remove Ballast, Ignitor and PFC cap, install 250W continuously rated 240 > 24V tranformer and new lamp.... and there in starts the fun, a 250W transformer will be twice the volume (in mm3 not dB!!!!) and 3 times the weight of the bits you have yanked out.... Also uprate to t-type input fuse os at least 6.3A as HID starters pull a wallop (in particular the first half cycle isn't PFC'd) but a 250W copper/iron tranny will have a hell of a switch one surge, even if you triac control it with a zero volt crossing opto device and a delay it will still pull a chunk of juice... Personally for all the reason stated by Norty (colour temp in particular) I would park this plan.... ![]() |

the reason is because i have 6 all together. 4 irocks and 2 imoves.
i am mobile and at the end of a show i pack away, within half an hour to an hour. 3 times a week. I am replacing the bulbs every 2 months or so (48 hrs approximately.. not 750 as stated. ive had them all serviced, cleaned and checked for problems etc by 2 different technicians, but still happening. perhaps as they are being moved constantly? i am currently using two of my 6 in shows as 4 bulbs that i need would cost £260. ive got a post here asking any information on where to buy cheaper but one reply reccomending farnell, at £70 each.

48hrs is mad!!!
Why are you replacing them, lack of brightness or they simply won't strike?? I would say you have some major issue here, let me know what is making you swap the lamps please... S

simply as they are blowing. getting through around 12 gigs or so, getting to 13th. switching on, finding one not working, testing bulb, finding its blown.. replacing that one, doing another 4 gigs, another one gone, another 5 gigs, another gone, and eventually getting back around to the original one again around 48 hrs. just doesnt make sense. ive had them all serviced, cleaned as stated before, using all surge protected sockets. and costing me a fortune in replacing them.

ive had this problem a long time now. people ive asked have suggested 2 things as problems. 1, moving them before theyve cooled down at end of night, and 2 stored in my van all week then switched on within half hr of setting up (condensation)

As the HID lamp is a discharge type, what exactly do you mean by 'blown'?
Discharge lamps don't typically blow up until used for a significant length of time, and the capsule is usually physically clouded long before that. |

Gotta say,
Check your ballasts are correctly Tapped (IE 240V NOT 220v!!) and Airflow, are the fans running ok... The other thing would be meter the mains if you are doing the same venues over and over is your mains dropping real low during the night (like 16% or so down) as is sounds like the slectrode are buring up onto the glass envelope... :-) S

all fans been replaced, all bin checked by technicians having pointed out this problem. i do rotate so many venues so often so would be a possibility i suppose. what about the earlier points of moving them about while warm, and condensation?

Unlikely, vibration is usually associated with filament lamps. |
