Seriously. If you are having trouble working out what crossover frequencies to use then perhaps you might be better with something a little more simple like a reflex cab, or better still, a powered reflex speaker. The 1850 horn is, by design, horn loaded so you need to be able to work out not only the crossover frequency (not hard... it's written on the plans!!), but also the delay to apply to the rest of your cabs in order to time-align the system. I'm not trying to cause any offence, but incredibly basic questions like "what should I cross it over at?" really do suggest that you would have a lot more success with something less complex than horn-loaded cabs. Best of luck. Cheers, John |

The best bit of advice you will ever get from the Internet is: IGNORE what people on the Internet tell you.
Find out for yourself. Try different crossover, eq and delay settings. Experiment with dynamic eq. Try different stacking configurations, room placements and numbers of cabs. The 1850 is a pretty decent "all rounder" (from the folded horn point of view). It can handle a pretty large frequency range and is nice and efficient (loud). It's a heavy bugger, but it's worth it!

I have just recently made four 1850s and am still experimenting to find out what I like best. True to the plan's claims, it is competent up to 200. Personally I like them better at 140ish or lower because I find that the higher I go with it, the mid bass starts to overwhelm that nice lower range, which is of course where the money is in a bass bin. If I tune it high, I need to eq down the top of the range, so I prefer to just set the crossover at 140 with a very gradual slope instead. Way easier, sounds pretty natural. I am using reflex mid tops that can go down to 60 without much trouble so I can kind of crossover wherever I want. If your mid tops only go down to 160 or so, you would want to cross higher, and I don't think you would be unhappy with the sound. I set the Hi Pass at 50hz at 24db/octave (Steepest I can do with my Driverack), as my driver starts to get into xmax trouble around 47 hz. Mine are Faital Pro loaded and sound extremely musical, but can not take the power that the PDs can.

altho it depends on your mid tops i found useualy [and others seem to agree] that a stack of four are fine hi passed at 40hz [same with 8 6 or 12 cabs in a stack] and tend to play best up to 120hz......
but up to 150 is fine if needed .... depends on musical style being played and what mid tops your using.... a friend used to use 6 with a pair of xtro we found that [playing hard trance or tekno etc] a 90hz xover was best..... but when we used stasys 3mk2 [thati owned at the time] 125hz seemed best...... but id personaly say 150hz is the limit and 120 was where it started to detoriate if that helps....... in a stack of 2 i found using a 45/50hz hi pass helped but the 1850 works best in a stack of four + so im assuming thats what you have.... hope this helps a little.... 200hz they will sound a bit shall we say..... strained :P
