something i learnt about neo drivers today whilst talking to the lads from di audio (who were using new noise control asym3 cabs over vsb215s, damn they're nice boxes...). if you've been giving them any kind of a spannering (which i am assuming is what you bought them for) give them 30 minutes to cool before moving them. matey boy has had to repair lots of res2 bottom end drivers because of this, it's a neo thing apparently.

Can sombebody with the technical wiz bang qualifications explain why this is so, or find a specific link confirming this...or if its a load of old arse....sounds like an old wives tale to me...must be that yorkshire air

Just gone over to Neo mids and fancy neo subs, so dont want to smash the babies to bits....

Cheers, Dave

well i guess heat build-up might possibly soften the adhesive slightly of the magnet assembly,so a sudden jolt might de-mount or shift it? after it has cooled, glue would be fine? makes sense to let it cool down.

Lets see some photos of the the ASS cabs Paulus.
Be seeing you.

Neo drivers are more sensitive to heat and shock with respect to demagnitism so I'd guess a combination of the two might tend to cause a problem.

For those who don't know, magnets are formed by aligning the small magnetic particles within the material in the same direction.  If heated above the so called Curie temperature, the material will revert to random alignment and you will no longer have a magnet!  The temperature for rare earth magnets such as neodymium is lower than for ferrite.  So if you're really planning to abuse your drivers, stick with ferrite!

Hmmm paul might have his wires crossed there. The Res2 drivers ain`t neo`s! And HIS res2`s are blown right now `cos he thrashed `em the other week!!! Anyway we squeezed a 15xb in there ( without heatsink) to get the gig done!!

We use the 1/2 hr rule because during my time working for larger p.a companies the most damage to drivers that seems to happen is when the box is moved post-gig. That could be loads of reasons why the damage happens but I think Mr JBL man has hit the nail on the head!

Just makes sense to me to leave boxes up , do the desks , cables , multis first etc etc and then move `em.
I did a job a while back using 6 x F1 218`s in a cube ratcheted together. they were run for 10 hrs flat out off of FFa 6000`s. Didn`t take the cube apart for at least two hours after switching off and the access panels on the inner boxes were still hot to touch!!!!
So just beware when moving them lovely new scoops...eh

.p.
Mostly harmless.... except if catering is shut.

I have never found any neo drivers that f**ked out after getting beaten up hard by freelancers trying to get boxes into trucks just after the cabs got raped with full amp power for hours.
