CE2000 volt sensitivity

   Just a question configuring limiter settings
I'm using a crown ce2000 to run 2 void v1000s, the manual says the amp has a 32.1dB gain at 1.4v and 26db Gain for 2.38v, which of these should i use? i seem to remember the amp having a switch between the two on it.......... or is it to do with the voltage output from the mixer? (although my understanding was that was 0.775v)

	if the amp is used " in isolation" it doesn't matter. im sure somebody can explain further, but i understand that the 26db gain is a common gain setting that crown put on a few of there amps. it makes setting the gain structure up in larger multi amp systems easier as they are all the same sensitivity for the same signal, only bigger amps will be capable of driving more watts depending on the input applied.

	Ok so when calculating my limiter settings i need to use 1.4v as mixer out in the equation Vgain=20 log (V/Vmixerout)......rather than 0.775?

	ohh , sorry i completely missed that first line, i thought you were just generically asking why. as for the equation i think its for calculating the voltage gain from a reference voltage to a second measured voltage, say at the amplifiers outputs. id just leave the amp on 1.4v input sensitivity. i presume you are on about setting a "brick wall" type limiter prior to the amplifiers inputs. its best done "live" i find. one interesting method i have read about (but never actually tried) is just to get the amp to start clipping under no load then notch the limiter back by about 3db. i doubt this is a very comprehensive method... there is some fairly decent stuff on harmony central about brick wall limiting, id suggest a look there. if you do mess around at a gig dont forget that when you do limit you bring up the average power level/reduce the dynamic range of the music. this will heat up your speakers. edit...... the void v1000 is a sub isnt it ? id probz not bother , just keep an eye on the crown. if necessary people often let the sub amp clip a little, its usually just as bad as hard limiting at the input. crown amps arnt usually too nasty when they clip as far as im aware. but perhaps a bigger amp is needed of you are running out of power. the 4ohm bridged output is pretty much identical to the rms input of the speakers. however im not familiar with the voids, someone else will be better suited to comment. 	I know and at some point i need to get a beefier amp, however I'm on budget lol And if you turned back the limiter 3dB after the amp clipping surly as soon as you have a shit DJ who turns everything up on the mixer then the amp will start clipping again unless you already had everything on full....... not that id want such low level life forms playing on my rig anyways =P but to awnser my second question question, is the output from a mixer always 1.4v/2.38v? or does it vary with every mixer......and is that a different vale from 0dB being 0.775v?

	ye, and with the limiter, its not supposed to as its a "brick wall" however it usually does slightly increase . have a read on harmony central....i Havant used one but avc2 make limiters specifically to defend against dj's they are supposed to be good. and with the mixer ,the level can differ but it is usually +4dbu that corresponds to about 1.23vrms. this type of "normal" output is common on pro equipment. domestic equipment traditionally uses a 0.775v or -10db signal. say for example a dj mixer may have a normal output of 0.775v whereas a pro mixer would have one of 1.23v. this as with most things is not always the case. spend a wile on google looking at levels and unity gain.
