Looking at that 3-pin Bulgin power outlet,i would say definately 40 years old plus. Very early 70's,maybe even late 60's? Thought it was valves until i saw the bottom photo.RCA output devices?

I found this:
http://www.voxshowroom.com/uk/amp/defiant3.html At first, I also thought it was valve. The writing on the transistors is very faint, but I don´t think they´re RCA´s. 2N3442´s with what looks like a small castle at the top. I´ll see if I can get a photo up later, but does anyone know who the manufacturer might be? In any case it still works and sounds great. Tremolo and spring reverb. Interesting read that link Earplug,i was pretty accurate in my age guess,it says they made them from 1967 up till 1974. Have a good look inside, you might find a date label/sticker?

No labels inside, unfortunately. It has been slightly modded, eg the Bulgin bypassed by a direct mains cable. Looking at the schematic, you can see the valve heritage, eg a standby switch (although not on this model - they must have realised that it wasn´t really sensible on a transistor amp ).http://www.voxamps.com/downloads/circuits/defiantp.jpg Otherwise in amazing condition. Just needed a couple of condensers changed. ![]() |
