Hi partypeeps,
Some guy told me last gig, scoops are not the best Basscab for the music I'm playing. I'm playing mostly Dancehall, Soca, House, merengue, Chutney songs from trinidad. For fast dancemusic like 140bpm and up the scoops are not the best cab..
my question is too all the music and basslovers here. is this true???if yes then what basscab are better then scoops for the music I'm playing? grtz |

.. never run scoops myself, but i believe that they should be the best for what your doing.
but being dance music, as you say, try beefing up the upper bass section... the kick cabs, see if giving them a tweek gives a bit more "life" to your dance music |

I'm running 4 miniscoops MK3 stipes with 2 SMT212..the discussion was about that a folded horn is far more better for dance music then scoops. Those guys told me 4 folded horns is a better choice then my scoops. I'm shocked and want some decent advise from the pro's.

If you are not satisfied with your system and you find it too "slow" on bass or find the bass overwhelming, as mini-mad said build some kicks.

scoops were a common site in the late 80's and early 90's on the house scene. not so common any more, as people like smaller boxes. your scoops should be perfect for the musical choice, if you want to add a bigger punch in the kick (high bass) region add 15" kicks, if you want to add kicks (high bass) but less kicky ones with less punch look at some 18" kicks (high bass)

..see, the folded horns just give more kick to the music where the scoops just wont. they arent better then scoops they just reproduce a wider frequency band... the answer is you need kick to your sound system and scoops wont do that. can you not hire/borrow some kick bins?

Definitely use both and make sure they're perfectly in time with each other.

As above,
+ Not all scoop/driver combos are made equal. Some scoops+drivers are better than others. |

"With other words, There you go ![]() Although it also depends on what you class as "dance music", but I would strongly recommend getting dedicated kicks (70-150Hz) for most kinds of that genre (techno,trance,hardcore,etc..). I've seen some sounds on here who obviously use scoops without kicks and seem to be happy with it, but then again - those are probably not used with your usual "dance" material. |
