Think it's mobo or ram. Graphics card been tested and passed, psu is new. Computer does beep when turned on.

short beep or a continuous beep? Could be a short somewhere, remove your ram and put it back in. I had this when my ram was put in incorrectly after a clean.

Short beep, have tried putting ram in one at a time and booting to attempt to see if it was one damaged module, to be fair my mono is the oldest thing in my case I wouldn't be surprised if it had been damaged by drawing too much power off the new psu.

No idea then!

I'm sure you've checked all your cables, etc?

It's a tv, works fine with other things such as ps3. Cables are all new as I got a fully modular PSU! Looks like it may be a trip to the local pc repair man

Produce a killer sound. Take no prisoners.

In case the interconnect cable (VGA/DVI/HDMI?) goes directly from the GFX card into the TV/monitor (and not from an integrated graphics port), then it's almost certainly either your GFX card, the cable, or the TV/monitor.

A broken mobo/cpu/ram/psu should not be able to cause such funky symptoms on the screen, unless there is some very rare condition, like shorts on the PCI-E/AGP slot connector, which would somehow cause the GFX card to go into crazy-funky mode, but that is quite unlikely..

What kind of GFX card are we talking about? Does it need external power from the PSU (6-8pin PCI-E power leads)? Because that could also be the culprit, in case this power is not fully provided. Try measuring the 12V rails, or exchange the whole PSU, and see what happens..

Edit: One more question - does the pattern change when you power-cycle it, or is it always the same?

Edit: Yes the hdmi does go from gpu to tv, tv is fine. Works perfectly with other pc's and consoles. I have not tried a different hdmi cable yet bit finish work in an hour so will try it when I get in.

It's been working before, but had issues with a new gpu so upgraded the psu to corsair gs800, gpu is MSI HD7870 takes 2x 6pin power connections, but have had the card tested by the overclockers lads I bought it from and they found it not to be at fault.

As I say it was working fine up to a point where I had to restart a few times then it would show a display, and then finally just gave me this rainbow. PSU is brand new and is more than enough for what I'm running. Here is a picture.

For this kind of rainbow I'd expect it to be a problem with my RAM more than a shorted PCI port on the mobo. What are your thoughts? Is it likely I could have fried both sticks?
