Hi

I was thinking the other day when did speaker stands come in to existence?
I remember speakers (late 60's early 70's) either being put on the floor, a stack of crates or on a table, obviously outdoor PA speakers were on stands but i Cannot remember when stands for indoors came about.

I'm only a young buck now (28) but I can remember going to school discos in the early 90's and the DJ using speakers on sticks (I noticed even then....WinkLOL) and stacks and stacks (and stacks!) of lightboxes.LOL But I'm sure they must have been about a lot earlier than that, mid 70's I reckon.

Had a pair of 'Speakers which mounted onto Lighting stands back in the late 60's.
Used for things like meetings and presentations etc, much as now..... except the Power rating was about 20 Watts

Not a 'new' idea back then either!

I dont ever recall any speakers on sticks in the 70's...if you wanted to raise your 2x12's,you just improvised and used a couple of nearby tables etc.

I reckon it was mid 80's before speaker stands came in.
Be seeing you.

This is the earliest i can find stands listed as an accessory, these are the slightly later mk111 HH 2x12DC's,with the later grille fabric,so around 1984-85 i reckon.

Be seeing you.

You sure the Bose 802 didn't make stands compulsory.

That's a small rig for Caister. Must have been one of the smaller rooms

That's what I was thinking. First time I saw cabs on sticks was 802's... late 70's / early 80's?
