What in people opinions are the best value moving heads on the used market? So many for sale ATM probably due to people changing to led fixtures. A pair of Flightcased robe 250xts sold for £420 on the bay this week, surely that has to be a bargain or what

It's a buyer's market for moving heads at the moment..like buying a CRT tv a few years ago (I'm still using a top of the range £900 crt TV as the main set I bought second hand at the start of the lcd boom..got it for 18 quid).

Best buys are going to be stuff that's been used lightly...ie mobile disco, band. Stuff that's been twirling its head off on the roof of a nightclub bathed in smoke fluid are sometimes troublesome...sticking motors, worn wiring looms, erratic or corroded connections and pcbs.

Quality brands eg Martin, Robe, Coemar, SGM, Clay Paky, Highend and Varilite are probably the best to aim for. Look at the cost of replacement lamps before buying. Like a second hand Sierra or FIesta, you are more likely to get another for spares or repair for a source of cheap parts as they're more common than some rebadged chinese OEM product that never had after market support when it was new.

Alot of my venue clients are converting to leds mainly for reasons of electricity usage and (perceived) low maintenance. Cheap led fixtures of course are anything but...expensive to maintain, short-lived and poor performing.

If you want serious light for no dollar go scan! I seen some Clay Paky MiniScan HPE go for £500 a set of 4 flightcased the other day.

I can keep an eye out for you if you like?

Hi Jason, no was just looking for some cheap movers, will probably go for some Robes as I have a pair of Robe 250 club scans and love them. I still have 3 highend wash movers that I've listed on eBay, when you collect your spares and repairs unit, I'll try and tempt you with them if they don't sell ! :)
(Assuming I haven't got my wires crossed and you are the same Jason..)

Aghhhh thats you! No, I am indeed that Jason.

So how come you are selling them and buying others?

If I am honest If they had flightcases I would have had them of you in a heartbeat! But the hassle of finding cases is just too much.
