This last friday i and friends put up my sound consisting of 2 punishers (ciare loaded) and 2 peavey midtops all in one stack, i must say that this punisher design is so wicked!! the bass they give is incredible!! tight and heavey... they were being powered by a ep2500 in bridge mode, the amp got pretty hot and it went into protection a couple of times after about 5 hours being mashed pretty hard... when that happend i just switched the amp off and then on again after some minutes... i used the amps limiter and 30hz filter and tried to check that dj`s didnt make i go into clipping it did sometimes... this was outdoors and the temp was about 30 degrees C so this might have affected this to happen also... we were running reggae and jungle trough the system for 8 hours... i dont know exactly what i could have done to prevent this from happen with the amp as we had the bass turned down pretty low on the mixers eq... If you guys could give me some advice what to think about to make next session better please share with me... equipment used other than ep2500 was a behringer super x crossover and a peavey 8.5c amp for midtops...
heres one pic on how it was setup...

Sounds like it simply overheated due to the outside temp and being overdriven. Did you make sure you had good ventilation around the amps?

Rockin- yes that is what i think could be the reason those factors together might not be the best... the amps are racked (6HE rack) and can be seen under the turntables, maybe i should bring an extra fan to try and keep the rack cooler next time... |

Never used the Berry amps myself, do they get hot to the touch when running hard?

Hello Okey, Nice to hear you like the Punisher design! I would suggest to start saving money to buy a good second handed amplifier. For example a QSC PL4.0 or a Crest CA-12 should do fine on the Punishers. I really like the QSC PL series. The PL6.0 is one serious beast on an amplifier! Best regards, Walt |

Walt - big up for your design! I have already started saving and will hopefully be able to upgrade my system by the end of the summer... new midtops and new amps..

Running any amp 4 ohm bridged is giving it a real spanking. Only way to keep the ep2500 from not going in to protect running this way is to make sure it's well ventilated and keep it 1 or 2db below clipping at all times. QSC say the same for the RMX2450

the EP2500 really isnt powerfull enough for 2 punishers so it will get hot trying to deliver the kind of grunt needed.
i would change it for an amp more suited to the job, ie something that does 1.5k+ per channel 8ohm or 3k+ in 4ohm bridge.

A good amp to also look at is the American Audio V Series. I personaly use that line of amps. I run the V6001s on 4ohm bridge (5000 watts RMS )for my subs and i have mash it hard to hours and hours to come not a single itch.

I have had my eyes on a Crown XS1200 that push 650W into 8Ohm and 3000W into 4 Ohms bridged, does anyone have experience with this amp? Do you think it will run hot if pushed hard using bridge mode to power 2 punishers? Im starting to think I should have got the 4Ohm Ciares instead to have more amps to choose from, from a small budget point of view...
