Hey hey
So i've searched and I'm finding odd results... looking for views on a simple question. Is the MT122 worth it (some seem to think not) or is the 121 the way forward. Looking for cabs to form part of a PA that'll be used predominantely for house and techno. Also, suggestions on subs? Really dig the 1850 vibe, 4 per side minimum! Feedback appreciated, please send all derogatory/negative/useless comments to info@bbc.co.uk |

Depends whats going on underneath - MT122 will get down to around 140Hz, MT121 probably more like 200Hz - if you need lower you either need a different mid top, or you need a good kickbin between the subs and tops.

That's what I would have thought, but the recent shootout plots show the 121 to be capable of playing down to around 130 ish.

Assuming that measurement was taken at 1W/1M it doesnt display the driver excursion so I cant be sure but I would suggest that below the bottom bump at 170 the driver excursion starts to go up quite rapidly
The average sensitivity in that area would cause me to cross it over at around 140
Either way - still a difficult frequency to reach with most wide bandwidth horn subs without colouration, its not a HUGE problem if you have the right bin

I think a better result would have been obtained 100W @ 10M Has anyone done an excursion plot for the MT121?

I agree stu, Important point. Excursion will increase greatly at cutoff, which you dont see on the SPL 1/w graph.
Crossing higher would be sensible.Perhaps a mutation of the 121 single 12" with slightly longer path length is in order? |

I agree that the measurements should have been done at a greater distance.. then converted to 1w/1m for ease of comparison.
Should have been 2m/2w atleast... hindsight is a wonderful thing!
What I can say is all of the boxes on test that day took one channel of an ep2500 hitting it's limiter (light flickering most of the time) into 8ohms for over 10mins each... approx 300w... without any signs of harm... and for the most part sounded good doing it...
Never any hint of breaking up, over excusrion or distortion from the mt121... which was crossed (under Rog's instruction) at 140hz. Edited by adambomb - 31 October 2007 at 11:08pm |

I well tried and tested system! That setup has been done before... but most would opt for X1s over scoops.
Are you SURE you want scoops??

hmm.. reading this thread again...
If your going for 1850s.. then I would build MT122... for the extra height and more balanced sound.

The reason for building the MT121 was primarily due to size and weight considerations. They're not light in 121 format. It was then found that you didn't often need the second 12" in situations where it was dance music.
With HD15's underneath I struggle to see why you'd need the 2 12" drivers, especially as most mid/top boxes these days seem to make do with a single 12" and either small format cone driver or large format comp driver. Edited by norty303 - 03 November 2007 at 6:07pm |
