I wanted to buy a 12vdc to 240vac inverter for a diy solar/ wind power setup. It must basically just be a very simple amplifier with the output set at 240v. I'll probably buy a cheap inverter anyway but could i use my amps?
if a 50hz sine wave signal is amplified to 240v off a 12v battery, could it then operate some 240vac devices. Any ideas of how it could be done, and what are the limitations. could a void infinite8 run off 12vdc battery(bypassing the supply) and provide 240vac? im sure there is a good reason for not doing this, but to me it seems like it should work? josh |

There's no amp in existence that can chuck out 240V while running from a 12V supply. You need a pro-sine or quasi sine inverter for what you want, depending on what load you're running.

The significance of a pure sine wave inverter will hit you quite quick if you use wind power a lot as modified sine wave inverters blow stuff up.....
My father has a place in spain which runs off solar/wind and his first (2500 euro) modified wave inverter got through 2 fridges in 18months...
He now has pure sine wave and the current fridge has celebrated it's 5th birthday....
