Three Eminence drivers in the 2x12 mid cabinets Ian----only one original RCF driver left inside.

Arrr..ok John,thanks..i emailed the seller,he was a bit vague, but "thought"they were all RCF? thats not so good is it.
So basically,as per usual with this stuff from ebay, its really just buying the empty boxes....... Edited by jbl_man - 18 December 2010 at 3:49pm |

Good spot Robbo - and I love the offer to whip out the remaing RCF for a small fee....
Please excuse my ignorance, but are these secondhand ASS unit's usually so pricey?, are the originals now uber rare?, if so, I'm a tad surprised Tony's not seen a marketing opportunity..... Edited by GregM - 18 December 2010 at 5:07pm |

Yes Greg, its the rarity thing..basically Tony got this design spot-on when he made them back then, and they still sound great even by today's standards.
I was lucky in that i had a large quantity of vintage drivers stocked-up over many years ready to load all mine with as well...i bought a dozen of Froggy's originals, and Tony built a further 6 bass, which i think were the final ones he ever made.
Tony will probually correct me if im wrong, but i believe he doesnt have the jigs anymore to make these,so any would have to hand-made from scratch,so would probually cost a fortune now?
That said Greg, the price is comparable to the price of good vintage Martin gear of the same era, just look at the price of good phillyshave m600 cabinets nowdays. Edited by jbl_man - 18 December 2010 at 5:23pm |

I was going to have a go at those, but felt were a little too dear given the transport cost on top,and then replacing the 4 drivers.....but well done Lee,im sure you will be happy with them..you will be amazed at the punch from the bass...now all you have to do is remove the eminence drivers in the mid cabs are replace them with something more sensible. Four B&C 12pe32 work really well in mine.

Thanks for that Ian, you know from our previous correspondance what I am out to achieve and I intend using these cabs to evaluate drivers. I was thinking of B&C but your recommendation is one I will investigate straight away. All the existing 12" drivers will be up for sale as I am no great fan of Eminence myself and one RCF isn't much good to me. The 215s have RCF drivers fitted so they will hang around for a while so we can trial some amps to decide which I will end up using, we have designed our own 1000 watt and 500 watt valve amps although I do like the Lab Gruppen sound too. Nice to know we have repatriated some more concert cabs to Essex!
