Yep, very real.

I remember the band KISS were famous for having a big stack of fake cabs/amps across the back of stage. Talking of fake amps/cabs, Status Quo have what look like all Marshall stacks on stage, but in fact several of them are Marshall 'Shells' with Vox AC30 amp internals in them, for different guitar sounds obviously. Why not just have some real Vox amps I don't know, I think they look great (Vox amps).
It's all about the music & the vibe, so enjoy it while you can.

Good find Peter...

Its all for the look anyway.... a big marshall stack would cause a complete nightmare with dispersion to mix to a big crowd....
Enjoy your self...... It's later than you think.......

Marshall will happily supply you empty cabs on a loan basis if you ask nicely. Good product placement. They even have amp heads with a PP3 battery powering the "on" light to make them even more realistic. It's all just set dressing, imagine if they were all real cabs, plugged in and shouting! Quite often there will be a stack of marshall cabs on a riser with a small tube combo fire-ing backwards, mic'ed up.

There was a time when guitarist and bassist really needed to have insane stacks. When the PA was just for vocals and may be drums. Imagine that on stadium scale.

It's real. If your playing a massive stage and you've just got a small combo sitting on top of it's flight case... it looks a bit daft really.

Marshall Amplification is, as far as I know, still owned by Jim Marshall and his family.

As for the stage set being made of empty backline cabinets, that's not unusual. The real ones are somewhere backstage out of the way and miked up. Sometimes along with amplifiers and DI'd power soaks for a cleaner sound.

What you see there are not lies. It's just good marketing IMHO. Thumbs Up

Artists in these days use IEM so it's not that necesary to be loud on stage... further you can do the math.

Or the real amps ar facing the back of the stage to not mess with the main PA.

few times ive seen the actual combo guitar cab used/mic'ed placed in the guitar techs area, so he can adjust the tone throughout the set!
