Well let's put it this way bee. How did I know they were gonna take so long for a multi million pound audio company,? Exactly I didn't until I found out. And on other note Kevin wouldn't take anymore in he was too busy at the time. Il just add it to the pile with the other 8 now :)

Well I have an update for you all! I have it back fully working!!! Carnt believe it. Looks like keeping the faith and holding hope has payed off! Iv Had it on test for a week with no issues. This Saturday il hook up to the system and see how it holds out. Major faults with it but the engineer came through. Most of the problem stemmed from someone previously repairing it and connecting transformer to USA voltage not UK so iv been told. Happy chap now!! Let's see how she goes :) :)

I wouldn't say that the Crown Macrotechs were complicated as such but there are some features of the designs which can make fault finding on them harder and gives them the ability to develop obscure faults.  I would probably now consider myself retired from the amp repair business but they were some of my least favourite patients.  More of a Crest man myself....

Though i feel for you for all the hassle, just go and get your amp back and go from there, go to the repairers and demand it back on the spot, if they haven't got it go to the so called engineers and demand it back, if it's to far i'm sure someone closer will go and get it for you, until you have it back and see what's been done you are stuck, if they haven't got it or they have trashed it demand the full cost of a replacement, show them how much damage can be done to their reputation on here and FB etc.

I would be getting that amp back ASAP! I'm not too clued up on law but could you not offset their costs against loss of earnings on the amp (in which case they probably owe you money!)? Did they give you a time frame when they took the amp in? Or as Mr ServiceDeptSteve says above, pay them what they want as long as they give you an itemised bill for works carried out then get a engineer who knows what they're doing to check it out. The fact that they've had to 'subcontract' the repair out sets major alarm bells ringing to me, as said, I suspect they've f*cked your amp and are/have been back peddling...

And as said, it's just an amp (albeit a bloody good one!), at the end of the day, any engineer worth their salt could mend that in a few days!

I have only seen one electronic fault in my life that was a blown main transformer. And it wasn't an amplifier.

There is a fair old chance they have cocked up the job and do not want to admit it to you. It is a shame you did not deal with the repairer direct as now you have 2 layers of legal liability to get through.

If they repeatedly fob you off, then you have little chance but to try one last time to make contact/agree a resolution and then if no response resort to legal action. Do it in writing, not a phone call. Recorded delivery mail if you like.

I agree with some above you might as well name the offenders if everything is as you say. The truth is an absolute defence against libel.

I've had to change a couple of transformers on the 5000. An absolute pig of a job as they are under everything else, they're also very expensive. Got another here with a knackered transformer but the client doesnt want to buy a new one, he's asked me to 'hang onto it until someone brings you one for spares'. Which isn't likely!
