Don’t think I’ve ever seen or heard of any failing, maybe a dry solder on the plug or a cable being pulled out.
But not the actual speakon failing. Edited by nuclearbass - 21 January 2018 at 10:42pm |

If they get dropped hard the metal holding tab can fall out after time.
Other than that they are pretty bomb proof. I would reccomened soldering all the connections instead of screws. |

Just got a pair of speakons off evil bay last week for 2 euro to try out, they seem to be quite good for Chinese copies but I still wouldn't trust them on mobile use but probably good for a non critical install or jobs that I know I mightn't see them again

The older speakon sockets can wear over time meaning the locking tab won’t hold them in to place any more...

The click can go, so sometimes they spin out and unconnect
Also had them lose connectivity with oxidising pins.. but this was in a pretty damp room

What joe and George said can apply to relatively new powercons, I was getting crackle and thump through my rig, couldn’t figure it out, it was a year old blue power on, the spine was worn and was causing a loose fit.

If you make / break them under heavy load often you may start to get issues, generally the speakon quality is the last thing I’d consider when fault finding.
