Hello All,
Last night at our gig we running oberton 18xb1500 from an ab1590b bridged per driver we set limiters so that the amps were running just into Amber on full tilt. I left for 45 mins and came back and there was nothing from the obertons. They said the drivers slowly got quieter and quieter until the stopped working over 45 minutes. This happened to both drivers off both amps. Any thoughts on what happened? Thanks

Have you tested the drivers since the gig?

yeah took the speakon from the tops and put it in the subs and no noise. The main question is if it could be the obertons not liking being pumped for 7 hours straight in a hot room

Are the amps that were powering the Obertons still working ok?

Have not tested them by themselves but will give it a shot. Didn't have anything to test them with at the time

1300w of never ending heavy bass into a driver that is only rated 750w RMS. What you say? AES pink noise test signal has 6dB crest factor so 1500w AES = 750w RMS. A sine wave only has 3dB crest factor, did your processor limited bass even have that much? Edited by Conanski - 22 April 2018 at 1:23am |

The driver is rated at 1500w rms, 3000w AES
1300w of house music should be fine

It's rated 1500w AES, 3000w program according to that link.
That said, I agree 1300w of house music should pose no problems. @Conanski, lol at the idea of 'music' with an RMS crest factor lower than a continuous maximum amplitude sinewave.

If these were loaded in a small sealed chamber then you could easily halve their long term rated power. I once made the mistake of assuming no harm would come to a pair 600W 15XB's driven with a 300 Watt p/ch amp with hi/lo pass and clip limiters, came back toast - bloomin mashed ravers, were loaded in Martin 115 horn bins.

FFC: They really should have been fine. Were they being used as kick bins or subs? I would suspect undisclosed abuse/tampering especially if kicks.

They were being run as general bass, 34hz too 110hz. I am considering calling Oberton and seeing if they have anything to say.
