Hi.
Building a three-way sound system for roots reggae and am considering the following crossover points: Bass - up to 100hz Mid - Over 100hz to 5khz Treble - Over 5khz Am wondering if anyone can confirm if this is adequate, or not. Bless and thanks.

If it sounds like a gorilla is trying to escape, turn it down.

The cross-over points seem fine.. but if you start with that you need your speakers to be happy in those bands.. if its scoops your planning on 100 may be too high.. for bass reflex 100 would be fine..
100 to 5k is a very wide freq band for any single speaker, maybe a full range box with a 12 and a comp with its own passive crossover would work here.. 5k and up is good for tweeters might be more practical to cross somewhere between 2 and 3k.. |

100-5k is a HUGE ask for a single driver or horn. Not even F1 axe-head achieve that, and a reflex loaded cone will beam like a laser above 1k.

maybe that can deliver the frequency band, but won't they beam like lasers in the last 2 octaves?

dj jammin. Thanks for feedback. Will be using bass reflex. Re midrange, I've replied to all separately. Bless!

Thanks all for your input. Yes, I envisaged midrange as the challenge. It is a wide band which makes me wonder what other three-way sounds do. Perhaps they have a shorter band but doing so is likely to eliminate some of the source audio. e.g. low mids and high mids. How important are low mids and high mids to a roots reggae sound? In other words, if it was mid mids only, would the absence of low mids and high mids be that noticeable? Giving max thanks!

Dub Specialist. Thanks for response. How do those old school drivers actually sound given the wide midrange band? Give thanks!
