!I did search for this via Google and didn't find any old threads on this!

My wood dealer only has 4mm plywood. Can I use this to make the curved part on the super scoop? And should I use 4 layers and make 16mm or 5 layers and make it 20mm?

The original plan says 6 layers of 3mm (18mm).

Any advice much appreciated :)

Laminating is tedious. Another way to do the curve is to kerf a board of normal thickness. Basically making a lot of perpendicular cuts with a table saw.

Google "kerf cut" "kerf wood" "kerf bending wood etc

Then use one sheet of thin ply to cover it. Or make the kerf lines  a part of your soundsystems look Wink

This how curve laminating should be done....... with a custom built clamping jig/form.

I built four hd15, making the curves from 3mm mdf...... wasnt fun. If i ever did something like that again, i would build a jig like vitor.

It is tedious, without a solid former. Once you've made a former it's pretty easy.

Once laminated into a curve, its insanely strong.

Ive not made a curve for a scoop.... but i did make a sledge this way!

Ok, thanks for the advice. Do you think 4mm make any difference? It's just an extra mm so I'm guessing it isn't a huge problem. But I'm admittedly very inexperienced.

depends on the ply.

Do some dynamic assessment! Grab a sheet and bend it along its length. If it looks like you can get it close to the radius without feeling like it's going to break,  carry on.

tbh 6x 3 layers or 4 layers of 4 ect wont make make a huge diff imho all will be really strong as its curved and glued  ect, anything over 15mm built up lams will be pretty will be strong enuff tbh also plus your formers that the curve/scoop sits on

I own a monster metal Jig to do the scoop with heavy duty 4x2  battens with heavy duty metal clamps, to clamp the lams down too , so pretty easy for me...will do 4mm ply with ease too

without Jig can get pretty tricky....

i would just do a 3 or 4 parts using 18mm ? much better and solid to actually  act as bracing to left and right of the cab when fixed to sides also

Where do people usually put handle holes on top of the scoop? I've been looking at so many pictures of scoops but most don't show the top of the scoop.

Do people usually leave it without handle holes on the the top? or how?

Thanks for all the replies btw, very helpful :)

Normally at the top on rear on the box, and in the mouth panel at the front

so then just tilt over and grab the scoop/box
