Also forgot to say some have 8 handles routed out of each box 2 at the top 2 at the bottom 2 at each sides of box, depending on how heavy the boxs are overbuilt ect and for better handling on/off vans ect

It's also worth bearing in mind the ply bends easier across the grain. Ply usually has an uneven number of laminates so cut with the outside laminates running across the curve.

If it's got wheels or tits it's gonna cost a fortune

Look at creffields (Reading, Berks, pro timber merchant) use "bendy ply" laminated up with a load of PVA ( I use PU for all build but PVA for curves) you can make is so solid 18mm birch looks bendy!

So, I got the first scoop done... I have a few more questions I hope some of you can help me answer... My builder, well, he only used two layers of the 4mm plywood I gave him for the curved part... is this a big problem? The scoop sounded fine to me... does it affect the sound of the speaker? or is it more about the structural stability of the speaker. I don't have any scoops to compare it with here... I'd really like to know what people here use to get the "wood look" I see many sound systems have. I've done a fair share of research, but I've kind of come upon one problem... I can't seem to find any pre-stain product here in China. I can find wood oil and wax...etc... but the pre-stain has to be imported and is very expensive. Can I get a nice enough wood finish on my Baltic Birch plywood without it? and how? (I'm actually contemplating painting them now because the wood worker has been pretty rough with the nail gun putting these together, quite a few marks on them! lol but hopefully I can get him to go easy on the rest of the 3-5 scoops I've got planned lol) On a side note... the scoop sounds pretty decent imo I never really heard a scoop before... I mean I have some years ago in Denmark, but I've never been around a reggae scene or anything to have a chance to really get familiar with them. In my test yesterday it was just hooked up to a normal mixer connected to an amplifier and a 15" normal full range top on top of it. I think it sounded great with the reggae and dub I ran trough it. Warm and pretty deep, also loud enough imo... DNB sounded good to. When I get the kick bin finished and the MT-121, and it all hooked up via the DSP, I'm sure it will sound a lot better... I really appreciate all the helped I've gotten here so far... I know I've been a bit annoying to some... but I seriously felt like a little kid on Christmas waiting to hear the scoop this weekend. I had DJ gigs in multiple cities so had wait to go before I could go and check up on my woodworkers progress. So cheers everyone, you got me this far and for me as a noob, it's pretty damn exciting Edited by Maze - 22 July 2019 at 10:46am |

Ok, I wonder why that is exactly? Like what's the science if you will? Here it is, no dsp or anything being used, just straigh from the mixing console to the amp to the speaker... |
