Just out of curiosity, anyone know if Meyer fabricate their drivers, or buy them in? And if the latter, from whom? Mainly interested in the MS-12. |

Officially they make every single one. In reality a bunch of them are made by other manufacturers but they’re OEM variants in many cases. You need to get the spare from a Meyer dealer - make sure you’re sitting down.

the "new" version is called ST-812 - 8 ohms, 12 inch... other 12" are named ST-412 or ST-212 |

Ok, cheers for the replies. I´m helping a friend here refurbish a MSL-3 system. He´s got a couple of the 12´s blown, so I was just wondering if they were OEM drivers or what. The chassis almost looks like a Beyma, but you never know. My friend has his 'recone guy', by whom he swears, so will just send them there and see how it goes. |

If you contact Meyer, they may tell what drivers they housed in that cabinet considering its age. Best Regards,

Ok, yes - may do that. They should be old enough now to no longer fall under any "Official Secrets" act. |

If they have the lead-in braids threaded through the rear suspension, they will be CIARE drivers. They used to cost Meyer about 30 USD each in the 80's.
Likewise the 18" drivers in the 650, although IIRC Meyer added ferrofluid and doped the cones. The JBL 2" drivers had modified, or custom-made, diaphragms - as did the Yamahas that they used later. And the optional extra row of Piezo supertweeters had a list price of what, 700 USD or something? |
