How difficult would it be for one of the dbmark processors to be changed from 240volts to 12 volts. 

For a project a 12 volt is exactly what I need. I have seen where dbx's have been swapped.
In bass no one can hear you scream!

Would it not be easier to buy 12V Inverter ?
Then if needed, you can run few units of outboard, on 12v

I jad thought about an inverter, but how safe are they to be left in indeffinatly?

If it's a quality unit then forever. Just make sure to have a low voltage cut off upstream if the invertor doesn't have auto shut off. Also you'll want a sine wave one.

Also make sure that you get a real sine out of the unit (or something that comes close). The cheaper inverters do put out AC, but more like a square wave. Things like a toaster will work, other thing like most PA  gear won't.
