Sticking panels together is one thing, reinforcing joints is another.

There are many ways to build cabs, you can glue and butt joint, you can glue and rebate in, you can add screws/nails/brads/staples, you can dovetail or box joint, or mitres and spines.

It's all about realising the use and abuse and taking it from there. There's no doubt that just glue and butt joints can build a box but it won't long survive a life on the road, the joint might survive but the wood may start splitting, hence why screws are using to reinforce joints. Brads are great for helping with glue ups especially if you're short on clamps. Staples are a step up in terms of strength but urgh staples.

When I build stuff I rebate in, glue and a couple of brands to keep it together while i do pilot holes for the screws. Means you no longer have to wait for the glue to dry.

Also for what it's worth, clamping with too much pressure seems to starve the joint too. Firm pressure is enough.

For what its worth I hear good things about the silverline brad guns. About the one decent thing they do.

Just remember that a good glue joint is stronger than the sorrounding wood. If you can manage to get enough clamping-pressure on the joint while glueing, it will be as strong as if it had screws.
For me, the screws are just clamps for glueing and for holding the panels in the right place before the glue has set.
But i have to admit, that i just leave them in there... just to ease my mind a little LOL

Is it possible to build a good quality cab with out screws? In the past I have always had a second person around so one person just holds the panels while the other drives in a screw with an impact driver.

Can you just glue an staple a cab together and expect it to last?

I am thinking of building then clear coating some cabs and I don't want a bunch of ugly screw heads down the side.

Answer like I know nothing, I have never used a powered nail/staple gun before.

Every so often Machinemart have VAT free offers. Mine was only about £115.00 when I bought it.

So after using the clark bandit compressor and nail gun recommended by Markie, i can confim its a fantastic piece of kit! Effortlessly fires brads into plywood/mdf. Takes a moment to set it up out the box but when its running its perfect. The only criticism is the quick release on the end of the airline to the gun leaks sometime,  iv just ordered another coupling kit to put on the end so its all good.. well worth £140 tho!!!! Makes lining up and holding panels in place while putting screws in a dream! Put it through its paces building 6 cabs and 5000 brads later.

It's a difficult choice, would you rather have:

A: A vegan son.
B: An OnlyFans daughter

OK, cheers. I'll keep that in mind. But since I've got air, and a cheapo brad gun, I'll keep with that, until I feel the need
