I'm in the process of looking at either swapping out my PD 186s for alternative drivers or getting some re-coned. Looking at PDs website they have a driver 185c001 described as high powered sub bass driver for reflex or horn loaded applications (my boxes are reflex) based around the 186. The 185c is very good value at around £200 but I can't help thinking things seem to good to be true! So my question is - has anyone A/B said driver against an original 186? At 3db more efficient and 500w AES more power handling these beauties are a steal. Call me sinicle but they're cheaper than new 186s, more powerful with better efficiency....that just doesn't add up in my head.

Which version of PD 186 do you own? The website shows PD 186/3 (I would imagine version 3) that offers a complete different set of Parameters to the older PD 186. Nevertheless, the PD 186/3 is superior over PD 185C001 for Reflex cabinets based on the TS Parameters. If you own the older PD 186, the PD 185C001 would be superior than the PD 186 for a Reflex box however, not better if you were using a Bass horn. I don't recall the TS Parameters of the PD 186/2 to make a comparison to the PD 185C001. It really depends on which version PD 186 you own in order to make a comparison to the PD 185C001. Hi Elliott
I'd imagine they are an earlier version as I bought the drivers used some years ago. Regards

Would suggest 18sound for reflex drivers.
Even over B&C, the old reflex masters.

I am not sure if you are competing with other sound systems our not. So, I am going to send you a pm on what you can expect choosing the PD 185C001 over the first generation PD 186 and, choosing the PD 186 third generation over the PD 185C001. Best Regards,

I would also be interested in your comparison of the PD185C001 and the PD186/3.

Is the PD185C001 advertised on UK PD Website?
Don't see it. EDIT:Product is PD.185C001.. Did not show up in Google.. Qes = 0.423, Qts=0.403 BL=21 !? Definitely looks like a made in China driver to me, needing quite a large box, and sensitivity does not look to hot either.
