I have just received a Db-Mark XCA48+ and I am trying to calculate my limiter values for my system. In the past I have used this program to calculate my limiter values: My previous DSP was an Ultradrive, so I would set the "reference point controller" to 22dBu What should I set this value to for the XCA? When setting limiter on the XCA I get 3 fields: (value)dBu / (value)ms / (value)ms Am I right in thinking the 2 fields in ms are attack and release? If so, I know release (for electronic music) it's best to have at maximum value (here would be 5000ms), however what value should I set for the attack? Finally, unlike the Ultradrive, the XCA has a compressor attached to the limiter, in the format: (value).(value):1 / (value)dBu / (value)ms / (value)ms What would the 5 values be here, or how would I calculate them? Thanks in advance

If the limiter can be adjusted directly in dBu , 0dBu is the reference point. Just found this ^

The compressor settings will probably be ratio.ratio/threshold/attck/release
This is a good guide for setting limiter times, you want longer times with lower frequencies as the wavelengths are greater Edit: this is not from a Db Mark manual, I have never used a Db Mark unit, but the theory will be the same. Edited by doober - 09 April 2021 at 9:03pm |

Thanks doober
I found this in another forum, which supports this "The attack and release will depend of the averaging style of your limiter and the frequencies involved. You probably want the attack on the order of 15ms - 20ms for woofers and maybe 5ms for tweeters (not written in stone). The release is generally set to be 10 times the attack " This is a much shorter release than iv used in the past and I am mostly playing electronic music |
