Hi all

Am thinking of repurposing some single 15” reflex cabs I have and use them for smaller hire outs/events when the time comes.

Here’s some pics of them

They were loaded with eminence kappa 15a’s but they have been removed and were used in my HD215, so currently they’re unloaded.

So my question is what would be the best driver for them that doesn’t cost a ridiculous amount of money as they’re only going to be used for smaller events.

Thanks,

Ajsski99

You need to narrow down the search a bit please.  A few questions that might help you and other users:

* What is the volume and current tuning of the cabinets (or at least post the dimensions of the box and the ports)
* Do you have any preferred manufacturers or ones which you can get better deals on?
* Be more specific about your budget, give a target price
* What kind of music are you most likely to be using them for and in what kind of venue
* What other speakers are they likely to be used with (what are your mid-tops etc)?

Unfortunately I have no idea what the volume or dimensions are of these cabs and I won’t be able to find out for a few months.

I’m based in the UK so can source pretty much any driver. (don’t really want to spend anymore than £200 per driver… more than happy to go secondhand)

And the tops I’ll be using are ohm rw3’s

Based purely on what I've used myself in similar boxes, you're probably looking at something like:

B&C 15PS100
Beyma 15G40 - use these currently

Lots of other options well within your price range but without more info on the cabs, it's hard to say for certain exactly which driver will work the best in them.  The above options should work in a reasonable range of cabinet volumes.

Well... the Kappa 15a is totally wrong for a "PA sub" so whatever you do don't buy any more of those.

Taking a WAG at the pictures I'd guess those are 4-5cu ft tuned to 45hz maybe, If so there are all kinds of decent drivers at a range of price levels that would work, how much power do you have to put behind them?

I simmed a heap of different drivers in an effort to build the best compact 15 inch reflex cab I could. The goal was to build a cab that could fit in to the back seat of a normal car.

The best driver I found was the Faital 15HP1060 (8 ohm). The cab is 100L tuned to 42hz using the impedance plot rather than matching port length to my sim.

I couldn't be happier with the end result, it plays loud (for what it is), low and isn't super heavy.

I plan on posting build pics, sims and real life measurements when I get some time.

Hope this is of some help.

Got an Audiohead ah2400 (t.amp 2400) I’m planning on using, tops on one channel subs on the other. I believe that’ll be around 650w @ 8ohm and 1200w @ 4ohm?

Try having a look at the Blue Aran and Thomann websites. Both are well respected suppliers with a good selection of speaker drivers, so you can get an idea of what you can buy that fits your budget.

Here are a couple of links:

Am very familiar with both of those sites, was just asking what drivers people thought would be the best suited to the cabs. Im going to try to get a friend to measure up the cabs as I’m living away from them at the moment and hopefully that info will help me make a choice on driver :)

I had a couple of cabs that were similar to those ages ago. Loaded with JBL 2225's. Sounded very nice!   Smile
