yo I'm beau
I'm 17 and I'm new on this website, to speaker building and the whole forum thing (after posting on several random forums hopefully I've worked out how to do it 😂)
so far I've only got sketches and rough idea but would be really good to talk to some people who know what their doing 😂
I was thinking of 2 15" mini scoops (650mm*600mm*800mm)(with 500watt drivers) 2 horizontal mid woofers (still working out a design)(with 300 watt drivers) and a small tweeter (100 watt driver)
if anyone can suggest any good designs, driver, places to get 18mm thick ply or can see any obvious mistakes in my plan drop me an email on beausemail23@gmail.com

Hey Beau,

Have you looked at any online designs or are you wanting to design your own from scratch?

Think these were pretty thought of for a free plan

18 not a 15 though....

Its worth ringing around local wood stockists. Someone might hold 18mm birch ply.

Where are you based?

I would like to suggest to check the high order quarter wave society on Facebook.
They have sub kick and top plans.

I build the Altcon 15s to replace my superscoops.
The result were outstanding and highly recommend them!

On the end of my topic you will find some info.

If you are Bristol based as it says on your profile then I would try Avon Plywood, now bought out by Sydenhams. They have bb grade birch, will cut your panels to size and label them. I have used them and found the prices to be decent and the cuts very accurate. Also have a handy online uploader for dimensions.

Your choice of speaker design should be informed by the sort of music you will be mainly using them for, what type of indoor/outdoor venues, audience size and any transport/storage limitations you might have. So if you can provide some detail on that then people might be able to help guide you to some choices suited to you.

Hi jon,

Ye it pretty much identical scoop but all dimentions abit smaller, id be up for using 18" only thing is the price and that id have to build bigger boxes which again is limited by the price of wood.

Based in bristol spoken to Sydenhams n their prices are massive like 70£ a sheet if im buying 4-6 so considering just using a wicks but theres are 40£ a sheet and abit smaller.

deffinatly interested if youve got any good sales

you could also try Robbins timber in Bristol Ashton Vale I and friends have used the quite a few times in the Past as their ply was suitable marine Baltic birch void free. Not sure wicks sell ply that's suitable for speaker box building last time I went on wicks most of wood was warped from being badly stored properly. If this has changed im sure someone will correct me.

Wow really detailed plan, doesnt look too complicated either, athough i dont have router thing for getting curved edges as i saw in your build, but if its an important part i can borrow one of someone.

i found this mid PARAFLEX 2x12" i think. do you know anywhere i could get a better plan for it or just make a more detailed one myself?
