What about a chip amp? One of this forum’s members Lutkeveld makes a very good little unit which can be configured as a 2x65 Watt output, with DSP & Bluetooth built-in for just €100:

You could make a nice little case for it, or buy the plate kit sold on their site.

If your listening position is within a few metres of the speaker, that should be enough poke to get you a nice amount of output.

Some decent options here to keep an eye out for, the extron and qsc look like the right idea.

But maybe as APC said maybe it's better just to buy some different shelves and stick with the amps I've already got.

Not much help I know but another vote here for a Quad 405
Thats exactly what I've done along with a Quad 44 pre amp , but my cubes must be slightly bigger than the Ikea ones
Loads of places sell versions of that sort of shelving if you havn't bought the Ikea stuff already

QSC SPA2-200? Not sure how it would go driving a 16ohm but great little install amp, passive cooling and can be hidden just about anywhere.

I think the size of the Matrix you've been using is about right. I used to use the newer 1u Matrix for mine and that was good.

Is there a Lab Gruppen Lucia in the right power range? They have quite a lot of options. I bought one myself SH but it was DOA and had to go all buyer protection on it so never got to try it.

Shame about the Quad 405 being just too big.

The Quad 405's replacement the Quad 606 will just fit. But they are expensive.

The 405 looks good value for money secondhand, and is beautifully made. Several for sale on ebay btween £250 to £300.

Maybe time to buy a new shelving unit.

There are quite a few plate amp things out there, easy enough to search.

The Hypex modules look good, but are expensive. Finding something affordable - and reliable is the thing.  Smile

Both look like pretty good projects, I kind of like the idea of the DIY route but I reckon I'll struggle to find the time to actually finish it.

If anyone knows of an off the shelf solution for similar kind of money that's probably the best solution. If not it's time to dig out the soldering iron!
