Looking into making some 12" ported subs and I want to use premium drivers for really sweet SQ without sacrificing SPL and LF response.

I know it's impossible to have it all, but premium drivers should be more capable than cheaper stuff.

Amp power is plenty and budget is wide open.

Anyone got some good suggestions?
I am thinking BMS 12N804.

BMS 12s305 is nice, the carbon fibre cone and 3" coil keeps mms low so its a pretty fast driver considering how much overhang there is, can play a wide bandwidth.

The celestion FTR12 4080DL is another nice one, tight dynamic lows with good excursion.

Faital 12HP1060 and 12RS1066 are also good if you want a neo, the 1066 is similar to the celestion but a bit warmer and softer sounding, the 1060 is tuned a bit higher and is harder sounding.

Thanks 👍 you would choose BMS 12s305 over 12n805?

I have good experience with Beyma 12LX60 v2, but it's a old driver today. I would think there is better drivers out there. But it can take a beatin'. A bit hard sounding, but it's tough!

The JBL 2206 clone used in THAT box from Thomann seem to be quite well respected... it really depends what you're expecting the output to be though as at 12" and simple BR you're going to realistically be getting "Bass" not "Sub"

I’m using PD123.C01 in my Tham12’s. It was the replacement for the PD.12SB30. I think it has now been replaced again by the newly released PD123.C001 Confused.

It’s a great driver in this application anyway!

I built this for the Ciare 12.00SW many years ago (bottom box). It was pretty good. Not very efficient or refined but I was quite happy with it.

38Hz, 60l or thereabouts.

Ive not tested the 12n805 so i cant say,  i tried the 12s305 against the 12lx60v2 and the bms was a lot dryer and more articulate, the beyma was quite warm and round in comparison.

Didn’t they change the spec on the 12.00SW a few years back that made it noticeably different?
