Check out what Adrian did with the somewhat smaller driver. Easy to build and should give you good results. You can scale the design up to fit an eight inch driver.

I think a small mid horn may be easier than you think. One approach could be to decide the length, i.e. throw. Decide how wide you want the box to be. Then decide your angle of dispersion. This will give you your termination angles. Make the throat smaller than the piston diameter. All you have to do now is fill in with two lines 1 for vertical 1 for horizontal. If you need to squeeze hi end out, keep the throat fairly tight. A faster flair rate from the throat will give you a more mellow sound. For our own use, we build fibreglass 8" mid horns. Once you have built the first horn, If your happy, it's easy to make a mould out of it and do them in glass. Only a thought.
