two totally differnt animals really.
The lab is a sub.. the 1850 is an alround bass cab... depends if you want 2 way bass.
Some people (very succesful people) say simple is best and stick with one way bass.. others have good luck with 2 way bass (subs and kicks)...
It's your choice.. (I'm a 2 way bass kinda guy). Edited by adambomb - 31 October 2007 at 5:44pm |

looking at your other posts I see you already have 4 HD15s...
So... in you application (with your HD15s) Labs would be the way.. or X1s.. or any other dedicated sub.. 1850s are NOT what you want to work with HD15s.
Cool?!?

Just even more 1850s really.. the more the better (the more you have the lower the stack will go)..
and mid tops that will drop low enough to meet them (porns MAYBE)... ideally something like the stasys 3 mkII

I'm guessing this is for free parties etc... Have a look at the Dirt soundsystem... (can be found on many a free party rig porn page) you will see it's just a great big stack of loonies (which are modified 1850s).. like 12 or more and stasys 3s.
Then look at the dissedent sound system (I think that's what its called, all black and green).. you will see Labs and either HD15s or USBs and porn horns (depending on the age of the pic).
That's the 2 ways... dirt is one way bass... dissedent is 2 way bass.

Good example. Not sure whether its due to panel resonances mucking up the bottom end of vocals on the 1.2metre sections,or the long delay due to~ 2.65metre horn that limits the top end of huge basshorns.Or a bit of both. |

You sir are mistaken! Dirt sold all their Looneys, they now have 8 Void Psykos, 8 Stasys 8 and a silly amount of Stasys 3 Mk2 as well. The greedy bastards. 2 way bass is a better sound, if you can afford to do it and don't mind the extra hassle. |

In my opinion there is something more impressive about the sound of the 1850 horn, it may be the distortion as you stretch the upper crossover point but I think it's just the right compromise between efficiency and depth. The fact that the intense kick is located lower than you get out of a dedicated kick bin but higher than the low trouser flap out of a dedicated sub makes it brutal. A 2 way system has the potential to be more refined and more balanced but for most dance music I think the distinctive 1850 sound has something special.
I am sadly now parting company with my 6 1850 horn if you're interested. 2 loaded with PD1850, 4 empty. I'm going the way of back pain and structural building damage.

OK.. sorry for not being bang up to date.. but they DID have that setup.. and it's the setup you will find in most pictures.
It says something that they too have swapped to two way bass.
