Although I love today's technology for it's power, the warmth of a good valve phono stage does take some beating!

Remember! 1000watts is only twice as loud as 100watts! if you look at the quality only the bass has changed really, I was getting the same sort of sound quality 25 years ago out of my ev eliminator 1a's (but with less bass & power) as I do with the system I use now which is about 2k!
since I started in sound I have used/owned just about every named brand of amp/mixer/speaker and still prefer the older stuff because it was simple and very un-complecated and aways seemed to do "the job"
I,e my first power amp was an HH s130 mono "slave" I used to do gigs for 200 people with it, ran it flat out and it never let me down,
now I don't posses an amp less than 500watts per channel & wouldn't dream of using it on it's own!

Never criticise another man until you've walked a mile in his shoes. Once you have, call him what you like, you're a mile away and you've got his shoes!

Check this out...Tom Evans Microgroove...
Really audiophile pornography, but I've heard these pre-amps and they are truly astonishing! I'd love to hear the difference a pair of these babes made to a big rig (A with) and (B without)-take my word for it,it's expensive, but if you want the best.... http://www.audiodesign.co.uk/ |

My first gigs were with H&H,we had a bank of 6 H&H 100watt tranny amps and they never let us down-but I've always wanted a decent PA...I remember what a shock it was though when we had to shift certain ubiquitous heavy metal's 'Rock Star's PA's in and out,but it's taught me a bit...And we did'nt have the choice of drivers we have today...

Sound City amps are back - with Arbiters, who sold them originally - though made in China now, probably. Simms Watts used to be great guitar amps - Paul Rudolph of the Pink Fairies & later Hawkwind used 2 x 150 watters with 4 4x12 cabs loudest guitarist I think I ever heard.

For sidefills, can we have two enormous things of a type that might be venerated as Gods by the inhabitants of Easter Island, capable of reaching volumes that would make Beelzebub soil his pants.
