That is not a good comparison at all! The X1 does very well in the range between 35 and 60Hz whereas the MT2 doesn't do that at all much below 60Hz. The MTs provide a big hump in response around 60Hz and fall off below that. In addition they don't play that good above 100Hz. Those things are very narrow in their response. For replacing 8 MT2 I would recommend 6-8 X1s and something for the range above 60Hz, like HD15 or 1850 horns. 12 HD15 would do the trick. Ok, 12 HD15 plus 6 X1s are bigger than 8 MT2, but the sound will be much much better! |

Depends.... If you want to be flexible you should go for X1. Six to eight of them should keep up with sixteen HD15 (or eight HD215 I guess). But you could split up the system if needed. If you go for LAB subs you'll get tighter sound, but you can't split up, because the LAB sub only works in big stacks (Ok, they work in less big stacks but they don't go as deep and that's the matter of an additional infra-way, is it?). I would crossover at 80Hz, but 60Hz. At 80Hz you waste a lot of potential of those HD215. And the X1 will play better if crossed at 60Hz.... Since the MT2 don't play well below 60Hz it's not a surprise they can't keep up with the HD215..... |
