Saw Steve Walsh in Yarmouth, can't remember which club. Sure it wasn't Tiffanys though, the thing I remember most about him was his girl friend...lol. Stunning...

Basically northern soul developed up north of England (thus Northern soul), by the clubs like twisted wheel in Manchester (started in the 60s), and the Casino sticking to older & unknown 60s soul, while down south in London and Essex mainly the clubs went with the newer music, this is the basic difference, could write more lol.

From all the info I can gather the sound system at the Wigan Casino was basically a standard twin deck mobile disco set up with added speaker cabs. Apparently from a few old souls stories it was not the best sounding, but quite loud Wink no idea on make or model though.
Stone Lion Sound System, The Garden City Rockers. It's all about the music & the vibe.

^Nice!Thanks man!

I always thought northern came from just basically England.Ive placed soul music to southern usa for some reason.I think Chicago and Philly was big places for soul.

Interesting thing is that the records played were uk presses to my understanding. Some weird tunes from motown for example which werent big in the US,correct me if im wrong.I also understand that a lot of speed was taken so that would explain the dancing stuff.Im feelin the northern soul vibes!

I have some northern soul compilations on cd.Gotta dig them somewhere from the crates.

Red this whole thread thru too.Awesome stuff!Thumbs Up

Northern soul peeps were better dancers than us southerners. Music was different too. We had jazz funk musc, they were Soul music
