Reggae Sound System List
I know many are missing!!!
I'm going back a long time now but anyone remember a sound system called Seven Warriors who used to regularly play at a club named Bumbles Nite Club in Palmers Green/Wood Green over in North London?

That list certainly takes me back to my youth days! Sounds i grew up with were:
Alpha Int (Harlesden) (Big up Trog, my inspiration)
Java (with Jumbo at the controls) of Kilburn
Sir Jessus - King of the Bush (Big up Ras Digby)
King Tropical Sound with the Velvet Touch (Acton) Merritone Higher Field Marshall Sound (Big up Grumps) Crystus - Slough Hardest (Proper heavyweght sound. Big up Hookie)
Loco of Bristol (First sound i see put "four face" on top of "four face" Driven HH S500D's and demolish Southall Community) Quaker City the Earthshaker
King Original the Crucial Rocker from Stratford (Studio One specialist)
Jah Youth the Mystical Rocker (Forest Gate) I remember sitting outside Shackleton Hall in Southall on my bike (1976, 13yrs old, too young to get in!) listening to Jah Youth playing Merritone. Couldn't drag myself away from that dance the tunes were so good but it was worth the beating i recieved when i got in!

Think i heard this sound mentioned before. They had weight, but not much music... heard that from one of the big soundmen of the period.
Most weight i heard was a while back, not since i heard Jah Youth a good few years ago, couldnt stop my eyes watering, my nose tickling, choking when i tried to speak too!!! That was 96/7 at Brixton Rec, also at Hakney Marsh fest, out doors! Never quite the same when i checked them the last few times, but always quality selection. |
