BEST driver for these cabs PD 186, or Orberton, heres what the Manufactures of Oberton have to say ........

We buy the paper cone for our speakers from the same company that supply  Electrovoice. For our speakers 18XB700 we use the same cone like EVX 180A speaker.

EV use cone with weight 50g I order for our speakers 60g cone from the same Kevlar paper. Our voice coil is 25 mm. instead 20mm. of EVX180A.

We have cooling holes under the spider and under the voice coil to reduce power compression. Some customer told me on the Frankfurt fair Prolight+Sound where we have boot every year that when they change the EVX180 in Dynacord boxes with our speaker 18XB700 the sound is better.

Best regards

OBERTON Co.

"BEST driver for these cabsis PD 186 or Orberton 18XB700"

... and this is based on what?

Here in Europe, none of these brands/types are used in the manifold cabs.

Of course I have the designs of the MT-2L but I'm not so willing to give them - I expect something in return: more specific the design of a 3-way topcabinet 15"+10+2"

I have say, that don't use the PD 186, it's not that good of a driver for the cabinet, too low EBP. The best driver in terms of price and quality is still the RCF L18P300, although I'd personally use (if you have the money) RCF LF18X400, that's the one with the Muller cone (the difference between X400 and G400) but the G400 works also the same, 'cause the T/S parameters are the same.

If you want to model it in WinISD, use this setup: 6th order BP, rear enclosure ~170-175 L, front ~80 L, 2 rear ports 14x23 cm by 70 cm in length and front 87x22 cm by 50 cm in length. This gives you a rough estimate of the bass response but upper end extends to about 150-170 Hz with a bit of rising and then cuts off. So with those values you can estimate the response with different drivers. I'd still recommend the RCF L18P300 as the easiest driver available and with a decent price. It's found out in practice that, it's a good drivers for that cabinet, a helluva lot better than the original ones!

Hi all,
here in Belgium me and my collegues we tried the MT-2L's with several speakers. We had the best result with the RCF 18S800.
Will also do without cabinet-adjustements: RCF 18P300 and Eminence Sigma Pro-18. For the Beyma 18G400 which I used, the ports should be slightly adjusted

Quote a 3-way topcabinet 15"+10+2"

If you're going the route of a 10" mid then a 1.4" compression driver will be much sweeter than a 2" unless you spend some serious money.

... yes, that can be an option but I'll use the 2"ers first because I already have the mid-speakers (Beyma 10M250) and the drivers (Beyma CP-600TI on a Beyma TD-360 horn)
