he probably can't, until he's contributed a bit more.
it's really not an advertising site, helikauk. it's a site for discussion of DIY speakers.. and the for sale section is for the members. have a look around though, maybe you'll find some of it interesting |

You cannot advertise here. You can post in the For Sale section with a link to Ebay. NOTHING else is accepted.

why does this thread always get targeted by the spambots ? ..does it really translate as "freely advertise here" ? :) ...how ironic.

To be honest, I think a lot of this (original topic) is a moot point. For a start, any link embedded in a post, automatically has the "NoFollow" tag added to it by the server script. This stops Google Bots from following the link, and you boosting the rank of your site, thanks to the "renown" of SP. Secondly, I think it is important that anyone giving there opinion on a topic, and has a trade affiliation, or is trying to make money on the back of there posts, should clearly show this. This is to, obviously, declare bias. Signatures is a cute way of doing this. Banner adverts, in any form, in forum postings, are just bloody annoying, trade or not. For aesthetics, and readability, I would say no to Banners in signatures. However, most posters on here, who make money from this site, do so subtly, and via PMs. Obvious example is Mr Windmill Tilter, who peddles Brand X of speaker drivers. However, he doesn't blatantly say "Get your Brand X drivers from me at great prices". He helps out people, then they tell others to PM him to get drivers and assistance from him. Cute, and doesn't involve any real "advertising", just him giving of his time, and if he is lucky, he sells a few drivers as an aside, based on his friendliness and knowledge. Seems reasonable enough. Most of the "elders" of this site work in a similar way, i.e give advice and help for free, for varying levels of Kudos and feeling of warmth, fluffyness, and self worth, but, given a chance, happen to offer to sell required bits and bobs at, usually, some level of discount from retail. Everyone wins with no harm done. A nice community feel, if you like. However, they do so on the back of giving time and knowledge away for free. If they happen to get a tickle on the back of it, I can't begrudge them that. Consider the creator of the site, Mr R. Whilst I am sure he started the site for philanthropic reasons, it has became a forum that has a certain soft spot for his professionally designed wares. I can't begrudge him that, as they hold up to peer scrutiny, in ways that others "hide" (use a thesaurus for the gag). Equally while PAP was trading, they were equally suggested by members onto newbs as a source of discounted goods, mostly out of genuine good experience and good prices. Porn Horns case in point. However, as a newb, you may not be aware of the link between Mr R, Speaker Brand V***, PAP and his forum, you may need it spelt out, so you can make a fair and reasoned judgement. (The reality is that you would buy from PAP, based on price and service, which genuinely did seem very reasonable, irrespective of how you found them, by recommendation from here, or from a google search.) If only there was a mechanism for this, such as an automatic message at the bottom of any post you make, to state your affiliation or bias.......I'll get my coat. |
