Ian,

I used to run loads of the PPX 450, 900, 1200 and 1600. The only problems I had were the power switches would fail, fans could stop working and if you don't clean them out often then can over heat and thremal out.

But yes, built like a tank. Its the PPX's, the V800 and the Rauch amps that were the inspiration for the new infinite v2's. If they could do it then we can do it now.

I'm just so pissed off with the whole do it cheaper routine. Oh, how much does that component cost. Ah, well can we get away with using one for half the price. That stinks. My philosphy is, how many amp does that transistor need to switch. 40 amps. Well lets use a 120 amp transistor then. For the power rail switching transistors I used 8 transistors and each one can handle nearly 150 amps. Its total over kill, but I can't take any chances this time.

I think that some manufacturers like Matrix and Void spec the minimum power their amps are putting out, regardless of situation, while most manufacturers quote the maximum output their amps are capable of in the most optimistic situation, or it may not be even the measured output but simulated or calculated.

Downloaded the techinical data of the lab, the FP14000 has more ouput current capability which is 83A peak compare to the  FP1300 which has 53A, with 195V remains constant on both models..

Have spoken to a few friends who own a few Labg amps, and it seems their strong point is not large current drawing for sub, but stability of amp, under sagging/hostile supply.

Seems they live up to their reputation lev.... its one of the lab strong points as stated in their technical specs.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Regulated Switch Mode Power Supply (R.SMPS™) – Output
power remains constant even with significant drops in the mains
voltage.

Lab gruppen sound quality – is optimized for
sustained performance into extreme low-frequency loads, yet it
also maintains Lab.gruppen’s reputation for exceptionally smooth
and transparent mid- and high-frequency response.

Patented Class TD® amplifier topology – Road-proven output
stage delivers Class B audio quality with Class D efficiency.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There was a thread I have read before about the labs intelligent circuit and speaker protection.
I can't recall that website.
That as the THD noise increases to 10%,  the lab will cut down its output so as not to damage the speakers due to distorted signals.

Here is another discussion from PSW.. about FP13000.... interesting to read also..Smile

I would be more likely to buy another CA18, or get 2x VZ5s, or get PL6.

Borrowed your quote from the Crest CC Range thread Lev, but need to say, what do you expect lifting them so high ?

What they doing up there ? Weren't you worried they toppled over ? LOL

I Have the Ultradrive, MDX4600XL Compressor/Limiter, and CA18 in 1x 6u Gator, so was simple enough to plonk it on top of the existing amp rack.

Also allowed nice short power lead from 16A supply to CA18.Embarrassed

hi!
the crest pro 8200 come out strong from the test, isnt it?

The Crest 8200 isn't on the list, the below is an extract of the more interesting amps.

Bink Amp Shootout March 27-28, 2004 Manufacturer rating in Watts/ch, 4 Ohm stereo mode Shootout results: Both channels working, channel A highest clean level or level just prior to 1% THD+N, 117vac supply Shootout results: Both channels working, channel A highest clean level or level just prior to 1% THD+N, 96vac 'sagging' supply Inputs terminated with 600 Ohms

QSC PL 9.0PFC 3400 3200 3152 3293 4804 * 3021 4766 -76.806

Compare how close in "real performance" the QSC MX3000a is to the Crest 9200.

Even more suprising is the comparison between MX3000a and EV P3000.
