Here's a photo inside a Crown XLS202. If anyone's looking for an amp with plenty of space to stash your mid-gig snacks inside, this is the one...
200wpc at 8 ohms...supposedly. Four output devices per channel, small heatsinks, 13,200uF of filter capacitance and a transformer not much bigger than the bagel I had for lunch. |

If Amstrad built power amps, that's exactly how it would look inside.

Except it would be rated at 3000w pmpo per channel!!! Sinclair and Amstrad, geez what did we do to deserve those two? Tony |

It's a bit like ordering bread and butter when you go to Subway. I'm guessing that the higher numbered XLS series simply parallel up the output device pairs, fit a slightly larger toroid (note the cutout in the PCB) and throw in a couple more smoothing caps for good measure. I do hope that they add more fans too though. Had a couple of these on monitors as an emergency measure as a Crest fried and died - borrowed em from a theatre. They were hardly being pushed but one kept on dropping into protection and needless to say the sound wasn't up to scratch. Bloody thing. Edited by MunkeyQ - 01 June 2010 at 6:12pm |

I thought GB602 were pretty good? Never had problems myself, used a lot for bass. |

I think they're ok as well, although the Crown rehash has had a few little problems, such as pcbs cracking in transit.
They sound good though and are cheeeep |
