er is anyone up for seeing how many hd15s we can get running in one linkup? there's a lot of free party rigs using them.
by october sometime, we will have 8 abacus will have 8 bio-tech will have 8 hazard have 8 dissident have 4 ash has 4 norty... 6? matieo... 6? dom.. what, 32 or something silly mate ;) i reckon we could get a couple of stacks of 32... 4 high 8 wide. 45kw of matched bass. ooh. gwaan, itll be fun. who's up for it, and when? obviously a full-blown bass shootout would be great, but everyone knows the hd's are the best design on SP anyway ;D |

Just keep the amping easy there as the surface area is very significant in terms of reproducable bandwidth wavelength.

32? I wish... I've only got a measly eight at the minute... Still need to make at least another four if only to box up the old drivers I have lying around... Unfortunately I keep getting distracted by subs and tops and never seem to get round to more kicks... When you include all my old ones that Norty and Mattieo have I've built 22 and the thought of having to make more makes me shudder... |

The real challenge will then be finding enough identical amps to power them all... We couldn't believe the difference changing from two very similar amps (a PLX3002 and a PLX3402) to two identical amps (2 3402s).

Mind you, at least we could probably power all 22 with PLX3402's and they're all PD154 loaded. Whilst that sounds completely sick, it does put the 22 Looneys at Carnival into perspective!! |

cheers for the replies... so are people up for giving it a go later this year? ill look into some stuff about big bass stacks etc...
why 'easy'? do you mean don't push em too hard? or..? with 2 stacks of 32 = 8 wide each = ~4m 140hz = 2.46m so we're talking about nearly twice the wavelength of the upper cutoff. presumably some delays would be in order on the outer 4 columns? anyone care to remind me of the exact mechanics of planar latency/differing impedances at centre and edge of the array etc. im sure with a few lake contours it'd all be fairly easy to deal with :D |

count my 4 in. Sounds a bit lame, 4, with the thought of 32+ is in my head.
Whats the plan for midtops? major mishmash. Think it needs doing soon as poss before weather starts spitting. |

Experience of a couple of german forum members tells of drivers tearing
in large HD15 stacks when driven by very high BL drivers with too much
power, the Tony Andrews era PD 1550 being particularily sensitive
apparently.
I would put the stronger motor/ less Xmax drivers on the inside of the stack and the weaker BL higher excursion ones on the outside (Kappa 15) Either that, or perhaps even play around a little with the delays in an end fired array (or two back to back) to make the bass more directional if noise if a problem (people thinking why is there no bass behind the array...). 6 LABS (if 9Bar were to join in) wouldn't stand a chance of keeping up to such a stack and I would seriously consider a limiter on the channel of the controller driving this thing as one wouldn't even notice problems till it is too late. *contemplates the price for a Ticket to the UK* |

for stuff about large stacks theres: a thing in psw in the study hall about reversing the phase and delaying n other weird things the outer subs, dont know if its a good idea or not, and also another thing on power alley, but you'l have to search for them.. i tried again n gave up but dont get too frustrated with the stupid psw lack of indexed archives. bast*rds. and a jbl paper that may be of interest http://www.harman.com/wp/pdf/multsubs.pdf
