"Silly question..Cerwin Vega JE 36B Junior earthquake cabinets....did they ever make a Senior earthquake cab?" Yes they do. The small one is only 24" deep, the full sized one is 36" deep. The extra 12" of horn length makes a difference. The real Earthquake bins were 48" X 48" X 24", and in stacks of four with mouth extenders they went to 16hz. The driver was capable of 2" peak-to-peak without damage, and was tested by plugging into the 60hz 120V mains for one minute. The year was 1974. Two a side of the small ones sounds 'snappy' but with no real deep bass. C-V recommended eight of the 36" deep ones for use in 4Pi, four give OK bass in 2Pi (half space). |

Hello all, I've been reading the threads for a year now and love the conversations...just thought this was a good time to show my shadow. "Yes they do. The small one is only 24" deep, the full sized one is 36" deep. The extra 12" of horn length makes a difference." Slight Correction! The Earthquake was the 48D x 48W x 24H folded Horn (Laying Flat on the floor). The Junior Earthquake is the 36"D x 36"H x 24W (Standing on its feet) of which there are several variations. (Trap & Box Types) The B36 (36"H x 24"D x 24"W) is not and was not considered an Earthquake. Prior to the Junior Earthquake there were only three bass cabinets in production, the Earthquake (Rare to get) the B36 very common and the B48 (24Dx24Hx48W). Opps, there were the B36 & B48 versions with the 12" driver in the box face with a grill cover (Red) (These were for bass guitar). Also early B36's & B48's were fiberglass covered. Earthquakes were painted flat black. Initially Cerwin Vega produced the B series subwoofers for Sound Reinforcement and Musical instrament playback. The Earthquake was designed as a special design for theater system playback. Only after its popularity in club and mobil use was the junior earthquake born. A little history.

i have never seen the original 1970`s "earthquake" cabinet....dont spose any one has any photos of it? was it a "w"bin,or same type of cabinet as the junior earthquake only larger? ..did it have the j36 18".....or the long throw "stroker" with the adjustable spider device?
