The W18 Keele box was designed for the JBL K151. The back volume is about 5 cu ft tuned to 35hz. Look for a driver with specs similar to these: Qts=0.3 Fs=35hz Vas=12 cu ft

It helps to have the correct driver, and not overdrive them.

Interestingly, that photo is almost identical to the Court acoustics 18" port-assisted w-bin,produced around the same time, early 1980's i think?
Court loaded theirs with the 2240.

2240? I guess it would work.
2241?
Vas too high, Qts too high.
The 2242 would be a much better choice. Edited by _djk_ - 07 December 2009 at 10:42am |

That's a bit strong. Literally thousands of these were made by JBL, SA(Holland) and countless others. The Keele W box was, for its time, quite efficient. Me and my mates still have an old W/Court/4512 rig and we still use it sometimes. We also have them loaded with 2240. I think if you load it with an 1850, you would start to have to reinforce the bracing. With a 2240 at high power the box colours the sound a lot already, big horn honk, can only imagine what would happen with an 1850. Edit: Maybe a fresh calculation of the ports would help for an 1850.
