You definitely get a different type of distortion when you overdrive a ribbon.

It's much higher up in the spectrum, none of the 2-4k titanium clatter.

Well you're not going to like this then Jon

You'd have to ban all hornloaded bass cabs

lots of distortion in them!

Actually I'm using these Fountek NeoPro5i in my tops. These ribbon drivers have a massive heavy weighted neodym motors and they look very high-quality, though they are made in china, due to a cheap price.
For advanced sensitivity I loaded them with a horn designed by my own, unfortunately it only increases the mid frequencies, so it's necessary to eq the high end to get a flat response.
I use to cross them at a frequency of 1k6Hz to prevent the ribbon from over-excursion.
They offer a bloody clear and stunning sound without any harshness!
My friend doesn't like his B&C compression drivers any more...

Thats the thing I am after :-).... I do need to cross them a lot higher than the 1K6, so I would think a simple waveguide without any compression would do the job wrt sensitivity etc.   I assume you are using these for PA use?... How do they hold up?

In fact, the Beyma TPL150 are Air Motion Transformers like the Mundorf AMTpro.
This technology is using a accordion like ribbon instead of a flat one, due to a bigger surface which causes a higher sensitivity.

Gamma Hifi used to do a hornloaded ribbon thing the same way..

yeah i'm also interested in these does anyone have a UK price?

Sound is analogue, get over it!
