Haha ! ..bet its those iffy freefloating heatsinks :)
Or is it the case you can electrocute yourself on ?

Anyone sending one in mind taking before and after photos, would be great to see what they change.

  • How will I know if my amplifier is affected?
Many of these models contain power supply resistors which demonstrate a very short lifetime. When these resistors fail, the amplifier will not turn on.

  • Which models are affected?
The following amplifier models are affected:
    • XTi1000
    • XTi2000
    • XTi4000
    • CDi1000
    • CDi2000
    • CDi4000
    • DSi1000
    • DSi2000
    • DSi4000

  • Are there any safety hazards involved with this issue?
No safety issue exists, but because the amplifier stops functioning we believe it is important to address this with a corrective action.

It would be good to know which parts are affected, there are bound to be some that slip through the net and turn up after the warranty period.
Anyone work for Crown who fancies giving us a peep at the technical bulletin?

Crown are dealing with the issue in a good way and putting their customers first. Other manufaturers would resort to stealth tactics, not mentioning any names.

I'm guessing it's an uprating of one or more of the large number of SMT resistors that are hung off the main DC bus for start-up & sensing purposes.

Either that or someone hasn't told their designer about building headroom into component specs.

Obvisouly not enough to make the Xti the paragon of reliability..the earthing, the duff display boards and now this.

The XTi looks to me like an output stage designed by C-Audio and a signal stage designed by some rookie graduate desperate to use some LSI chips for something exciting.
