Bose 1800 mk4, not a common amp, built in Germany to a very good standard. Just over 700W pc at 4R

Saw plenty of these around 20 years back, Matrix made. Not bad, nothing remarkable either.

This weekend’s project is re-capping both of these, electrolytics only naturally. The pre-amp is 28 years old, the power amp 27. Both are heavily biased into class A so run very warm. Around 110w pc at 8R.

Everything arrived from Farnell yesterday, just need to find my roll of silver solder now, as that is what these  are made with.

20 years ago would be about the correct era....

It seems to share a lot with the UKP1300 / STR1200 amps, except the daughter board the internals look like a mirrored UKP1300.

Just had this monster on the workbench.

Mackie Fusion 3000 amp panel.

Bottom-end, a basic Class G.

Mid and top, Class AB, MOSFETs on the o/p, with transformer coupling to speakers. Very odd choice for the design. I really don't see any advantage doing this. Maybe with valves, ok - but with transistors? I guess it was looked on as a marketing thing for the cabs.   Confused

Devine MA-800, bought for bass duties in a no-budget system, 2x400@4ohm. based on ttc5200/tta1943 so hard to belive but its only running a beyma 15g300 in a scoop for garden parties so won't be an issue. tried it on my home stereo and was remarkably "warm" sounding so quite a happy camper.

Devine is the instore brand of BAX shop and their budget gear has a good price/quality comparison. Bought this one for 80 euros' but still sells new for 220 euro.

And down here, RAM made some that look the same as well. Obviously a common design - with a horrible design fault.

The RAM one's I've seen have slots above the fan. Cover that and they overheat - and go POP! One company here installed those in a few bars - where it can get really hot anyway. In the end - and after several repairs, I just swapped out for other amps. Really stupid.   Ouch
